As with other Thermage Treatment Tips, the Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip can be used with Thermage devices, which work on the principle of radiofrequency (RF) heating. These devices emit a fixed amount of RF energy through a Treatment Tip to a treatment site to heat the underlying deep layers of the skin and its collagen structures. At the same time, collagen regeneration in the treatment site is also induced. As a result of these effects, skin treated with a Thermage device becomes dramatically tighter. Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip works on skin in a number of areas, including the face, neck, and the body. Designed to be used along with Thermage CPT, this Treatment Tip is used to improve loose skin caused by aging and to diminish the appearance of wrinkles. It is also effective in eliminating unwanted bulges on the body.
Due to its unique design, Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip is able to deliver heat uniformly. This provides greater patient comfort and enhanced volumetric heating, the latter of which helps deliver superior results. Indeed, thanks to its enhanced volumetric heating, Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip heats a higher volume of tissues to the desired temperature. This Treatment Tip is available in 900 REP and 1200 REP versions.
To ensure precise placement of the tip, a grid patterned stencil should be transferred to the treatment area on the skin before treatment. Other than that, a return pad should be placed at the back or stomach of the patient. This pad allows the RF current to travel back to the generator.
Thermage treatment with Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip is safe. It is well tolerated by most patients. In fact, most patients are able to resume their normal activities right after the procedure. Regardless, minor side effects, such as swelling and bruising, may occur in some patients. Furthermore, it is possible that patients may develop skin redness after treatment. However, this side effect is self-limiting and eventually resolves itself.
Rare side effects such as hematoma may occur. Clinically, hematoma means the collection of blood under the skin. Hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation rarely occur, as Thermage treatment, including ones done with the Thermage CPT device, has no effects on the upper layers of the skin. Some patients may experience fat atrophy or fat loss after treatment. It is believed that the fat cells burst and become absorbed due to the damaging effects of the RF heat energy.
