Thermage TF-2 Coupling Fluid works as part of Thermage systems, all of which consist of a cryogen unit, an energy producing generator, and a Handpiece. Thermage systems are able to reduce wrinkles and lines on various areas (e.g. the face and eyelids) and can remove unwanted bulges on the body. Plus, it helps to smooth uneven, dimpled skin. Essentially, these systems work by transmitting radio frequency energy to the deep levels of the targeted skin, thereby altering local fat cells and promoting skin tightening. Thermage systems, particularly Thermage CPT, are incorporated with an advanced energy delivery system that interweaves cooling bursts in between the delivery of radiofrequency waves. The fluid can also be used to facilitate the movements of a Handpiece and reduce pain and discomfort, especially when an older device, such as NXT and TC3 are used. More importantly, it allows for the safe transfer of radiofrequency waves. Thermage TF-2 Coupling Fluid should be used generously over the predetermined treatment site. To ensure optimal outcomes, the coupling fluid should be reapplied as required. This helps to keep the treatment area wet. This product is available in 30ml and 60ml bottles.
Thermage TF-2 Coupling Fluid itself is unlikely to cause severe complications. Regardless, treatment with a Thermage system can potentially result in skin reactions such as redness that resembles a sun burnt, bruising, and swelling. These side effects tend to be mild and short lived and usually disappear within a day. A Thermage treatment, as with any other treatments that involve heating and cooling, has a risk of causing damage to the skin. In addition, the collection of blood under the skin (which is medically known as hematoma) may occur. Uncommonly, patients that undergo a Thermage treatment may experience fay atrophy (or fat loss). This side effect can occur due to the radiofrequency heating, which causes the fat cells to burst and be absorbed. Thermage systems do not heat the upper skin layer; therefore, they rarely cause hypopigmentation (decrease in skin pigmentation) or hypopigmentation (increase in skin pigmentation).
Regardless, Thermage treatments are generally safe and well tolerated when they are performed correctly by a qualified practitioner. In fact, Thermage products (including Thermage TF-2 Coupling Fluid) have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States.
